JAKARTA, November 14, 2025 – In a strategic move to expand the reach of space innovation in Southeast Asia, the Space Tech Accelerator (STA) Japan, together with the Indonesia Japan Business Network (IJBNet), has discussed and agreed to form a preparatory team to establish a local company entity in Indonesia. This initiative aims to transfer expertise, open access to global funding, and accelerate the growth of the space tech startup ecosystem in Indonesia.

The preparation team formed and led by Dr. Salim Mustofa (Secretary General of IJBNet and also a senior researcher at BRIN), assisted by Mr. Udhoro K. Anggoro, will develop an operational framework, assess a business model that is adaptive to the local market, and formulate the legalities for establishing a Foreign Investment Company (PMA) in Indonesia. The presence of STA Japan through this local entity is designed to bridge the technological advancements of Japanese deep tech with the potential resources and innovative talent of Indonesia.

"Indonesia has a very strategic geographical position and demographic potential for the development of space technology, ranging from satellite telecommunications, earth observation, to climate solutions and agriculture based on spatial data," stated Mr. Genki Hiraga (CEO & Founder) of STA Japan, during his discussion. "Through the establishment of this local entity, we are committed not only to investing but also to transferring technology and supporting local innovators to penetrate the global market."

In the initial phase of this preparation, the team will focus on several key pillars:

Feasibility Study and Regulatory Compliance: Examining the regulatory landscape of space affairs, investment licensing, and trade regulations in Indonesia to ensure that company operations are conducted in accordance with applicable laws.

Exploring Strategic Partnerships: Building communication and synergy with key stakeholders, including national research and policy institutions such as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), relevant ministries, and the ecosystem of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) that intersect with the technology and infrastructure sectors.

Mapping Ecosystems and Talent: Identifying local startups, university research centers, and outstanding talents in the fields of science, materials engineering, and aerospace engineering that are ready to be incubated.

As a leading startup accelerator, STA Japan has a track record of nurturing various successful space technology companies. Through a local company to be established in Indonesia, the acceleration program will be tailor-made to address specific challenges in the Southeast Asian region, while also opening pathways for strategic partnerships between Japanese and Indonesian corporations.

The process of team formation and the management of the legal establishment of the company is targeted to be completed gradually over the next few months.
